The Parent Institute : Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune
Bharati Vidyapeeth is one of the largest networks of educational institutions in India. In the year 1964, Dr. Patangrao Kadam established this institution in Pune. His focused objective was to bring about intellectual awakening of the people and to create manpower capable of contributing effectively towards national development. Bharati Vidyapeeth has a very humble beginning but its growth in terms of the educational institutions set up and the academic excellence achieved, is tremendous. It runs more than 176 educational units of various kinds, right from pre-primary schools to postgraduate institutions and University. Among the institutions of higher and professional education are colleges of medicine, Dentistry, Ayurveda, Nursing, Law, Social Work, Hotel Management, Catering Technology, Environmental Science, Arts, Science, Commerce, Computer Science, Fine Arts, Agriculture and Physical Education.
Considering the problems of education of the children in tribal and rural areas, Dr. Patangrao Kadam, with a view of social commitment, set up a school for tribal children at Jawhar, Dist. Thane, with a hostel having a capacity of about 250 students. Similarly, a school, a college and an industrial training center were set up at Kadegaon, Dist. Sangli for girls coming from rural areas. A hostel facility with an intake capacity of 450 girls has enabled these girls to educate themselves. Keeping a humanitarian outlook and the financial situation of the tribal and rural students in view, both these institutions are financially supported by Bharati Vidyapeeth and they have been given all the modern infrastructural facilities. A separate women’s college of Engineering has been set up at Pune. The motto of Bharati Vidyapeeth is ‘Social Transformation Through Dynamic Education’.
Along with an excellent network of educational institutions, our founder, Dr. Patangrao Kadam has established a strong field of cooperative sector especially in agro-based industries. These industries include sugar factory, spinning mill, scheduled bank, consumer store, dairy and a poultry. The great achievement of the founder is that he has brought about coordination between the cooperative sector and the educational institutions. As a part of social commitment, these cooperative institutions are bound by constitution to donate 20% of their profit to Bharati Vidyapeeth for the noble cause of education and also generate job opportunities for the younger generation, thereby helping the socio economic upliftment of rural population.
